Moving your feet into a switch stance occasionally helps. They toughen up over time.

I'd rather cut em off than ride wrong foot forward

that would solve the problem too

I have due surgery a really bad feet, missing tissue, tendon,s muscle etc and although I hated saling with boots in the past I now can,t without them and even have with small custom inlets in it to give the support I need.

Even without inlets the boots ad a bit of support and cushioning that you won,t have without. The reefboots from FCS and Ripcurl with multiple straps seem to work the best for me.

My wife learnt to ride switch from the start and learnt natural and goofy equally as quick. Its not a big deal, just a few sessions for the experienced.

Only jibing on her preferred side of course.

I think any winger who needs to work up wind for what ever particular winging discipline they do will eventually accept they will need to ride switch or suffer terrible body issues eventually.

I don't go upwind. Now that I have my tack dialed I just cycle in the happy spot on top of the break. I keep enough ground there's no reason to take a long tack to mow the lawn. It's rare I go more than 30 secs without a tack or gybe, I'm always doing something 100% of the time and at this point it's buttery smooth, no hiccups. No desire mess that up trying to learn switch.

so that means my feet never ever move. Gonna add some arch support traction

Well that's just a limit to your own ability, it really isn't that hard . Try harder or try a different sport . Not being disrespectful but switching has huge advantages especially in waves . Your choice but an upwind switch will gain you huge ground even on your bad side .Need some arch support because you never fall off , hit up Nike for a spono .

, but from a sponsor point of view the my 4m get overpowered in the barrel what size should I use line sounds to me a bit more impressive as my arch hurts.

Personally, I've decided that I'm happy not using a pump to inflate my wing. I know with air pressure in it it would be better but I'm happy sitting in the water. Don't judge me Piros. ??????

However, all jokes aside about bold "I'll never" statements (and you do you man.) I have added a big arch bar to all my boards with 2-3 layers of deck pad. You could do the same if you have a consistent foot position worked out. It sticks fine on top of your pad. Just get some extra EVA pad material and cut to fit. Actually not a bad idea for us old guys or folks with bad feet. And seriously, keep us posted. My front hip hurts pretty bad if I don't switch feet. I'm tracking this and might start a thread.

Yeah, I'm gonna build some traction arch bars and see if that helps.

Maybe I'll see someone switch feet one day and say "that looked really smooth, I want to get some of that action" but that's not the case.

I'll be first to acknowledge that I have different style and objective from most, more focused on flow and style and looping in a small area and I don't see a switch being part of that without devoting an immense amount of time to it.

I've also been down this road on the kite foil and came to the same conclusion.

Style and how one wants to spend ones time playing IS pretty subjective isn't it?

I saw this vid yesterday and was struck by this guys flow between jibes, tacks and switches... looks pretty smooth and definitely not lacking in style.... to me. Think being able to do that can be stylish, but also 100% practical- the ultimate toolbox to get around in a watery playground, to efficiently, easily be exactly where you want, when you want. Or a complete vocabulary to express yourself if you prefer that way of looking at it. And no secret- one of the most fully expressed Ive seen between board, feet and wing is of course Johnny Heineken who puts it all together like a dance. Dudes switches flow so you never even notice them.

an out of the box idea would be to try wearing sneakers. I saw someone at the local doing this and they raved about how nice it is. I guess you'll want shoes that deal well with water but still have a nice supportive sole.

I do a lot of foot traiining exercises many of which you can find in this video - I've also seen Laird Hamiliton doing exercises with his feet and golf balls

Some people just want to suffer for their choices then complain later. I can respect that!

Might try my sneaks next. I tried more arch and it didn't help, worse actually. Tried to focus on what I was feeling and it seems like my toes are high, tight achelies and a tight arch. Might do a wedge under my heel if the sneak doesn't help.

I had a lot of pain in my knees and feet. I found that it was a result of tight hams and weak glutes. A minimum amount of stretching and strength exercises were life changing. It might be worth a shot. I do 16 minutes a day.

I agree with Seastudent. Multiple meniscus tears in my right knee and major back surgery around 37 years ago forced me to include daily stretching and core exercises. Makes a huge difference, especially at an older age (63 for me). I also cross train with biking and swimming and keep the weight off with low carb eating habits (it's amazing how much stress all that extra body weight puts on your joints).

Last but not least I take a few supplements that I think really help with my joint strength; Curcumin, Glucosamine/Chondroitin, and Collagen peptides. I think for these supplements to be effective you need to combine them with the stretching, strength training, cardio and healthy eating. Taking them while your 25 kilos overweight on a diet of chips and beer, and no workout/cardio routine won't do much good....IMHO!

My buddy had same issue. He took the pad off his board, then stole his wife's yoga mat and glued that down. Says its way more comfortable.
