hello, my name is Chris,
Im new to this forum

i looking for some help to source 2 old style long windsurfer board for a project i have. i need boards with dagger keel .if anyone know when i might be able to get my hands on some for a low price it would be highly appreciated. Someone might have some of those old fashion board sitting in the garage collecting dust.

Thanks for the link, no permanent modification will be done to the boards, might be an abomination to your opinion, but if it gets me and my kids having fun on the water with a sail. i think its worth the try. worst case i use the board as it is when i want to as they will still be original. I'm sure the kit surf look like a stupid idea to some people when it first appeared ,in the few of hardcore sail guys. Time will tell if it ends out a cool and practical thing or not.

No modification made to the boards. Every thing can me remove and put back if want to use as single board.. still need to fit the sail and sort out a rudder.

Interesting project! Looks cool. Not sure about the PVC piping though? I would have thought one slight mishap/capsize, they would snap like a twig?

I hope not. I used 60mm pvc pressure class 12 pipe and 90mm for the base. With tentionning cables . I am hopeful.. tested the sail at home. Seem to hold. Just need to finish the rudder

Instead of having the boards flat, it may work better if they are angled, so that the one in the water sits flat, depends I guess if you are going to sail it powered up enough to lift one hull

Thought about this
. But too much stress on the frame having to lift one hull. More stable and solid sharing the load on both. Also max buancy having both flat.

So as soon as a hull starts to lift, you're going to sheet out?
That's going to kill most of the fun.

interesting design ..just wonder how your weight being at the back of the boards ...it might wheel stand ...are the seat able to come forward where more foam is ...just an observation ,i might be wrong .
or a small flotation board added to the rear .?

great design ,

Tardy, looks like the seats are where the foot straps normally are, so it would need to be powered enough to normally get in the straps, to stop it "wheel standing"

ok

i would love to see it up and moving ,having the choice of been able to use bigger or smaller sails is a huge bonus over a catamaran .

hey chris ,can you post pictures of steering ,while seated ,or are you going to use the boom and only have the kids seated ?

Good Observation, i had this problem when trying to find the ideal spot to sit, unfortunaly the seat is as far as possible forward due to the dagger keel in the way, also i am hoping that i am not to heavy to sink the back, and hope that the sail weight and the frame forward, makes the front goes down enough to keep the back up.. the other thing i am hoping for is because the sail is fix,, not pulled backwards like in the normail windsurf.. it may pull the back up as soon as you start moving.

also hoping that having 2 boards locked to each other will give me more buoyancy to compensate for the rear body weight, i have to say the foot strap were all far back, so the board is meant to go quick with rear weight. should be testing tomorrow or tuesday.

The day has come.. I tried it on the river today. With quite strong wind. Sometimes you Got to run before you can walk. Lot of flex in the frame. But nothing broke. Rudder need to be bigger and add 2 more tension ropes for mast as security. Thanks for the support and the thumbs up of the guys that were there. Bottom line it's working and not wheeling up at all.. also pretty quick. A link for a YouTube video should be available in 2 hours.

HI, No kids for maiden, was trying to avoid the casualties, in case of ending like the titanic, but maiden was not so bad, i should be trying again on Wednesday or Thursday with the new improvements. looking into a custom made foil fitted where the back fins were to raise the back a little while moving.

regarding the foil, i am thinking of using 2 pair of hydrofoil,

what do you think,, to lift the stern where i sit, cheap option i think

I think you are sitting on the wrong side, if it gets wind you will capsize.
The Poly Pipe won't last but the basic design seems to work

Fair point. it did get wind though. i did change side.. so not sure which one is the wrong one. you mean be the opposite side of the sail?

Your Rudder may not be too small. Need a rudder on each hull and you are not using it correctly. Should be pointing down not parallel like in the vid.
And maybe some foils like these - Goodall Foiling VIPER (goodalldesign.net) instead of the centreboards

I have modified the Rudder today with a large and deeper plate. Should have more authority. . Hope the pvc last long enough to have some fun. The beauty with the pvc is that it is easy to replace.
