I'm pretty sure that Sebastien Cattelan broke Antoine's world record with that 53.770 run. Antoine's previous record was 53.27 knots. Exciting times!!!

Appears the boom failed and he is not happy with the brand. Don't know that any brand are producing single sided booms as you would not sell many. Maybe one off customs requiring more R&D though, lot of strain on the components at clew and head even if braced in between with second arm.

So that's the 50 knot club? It has a very European feel - we need an Aussie flag on there!

Steve Allen there literally giving it a crack, the canal that is. Almost a 50 at the start gate bodes well if you can hold it together from there for a 50-500. He's got some gear to fix now though.

S'A' F'Book' Oct31..
It's my first time doing speed in many years and was taking easy until I got my gear feeling comfortable. Then I went for it and unfortunately I hit the bottom of the canal right at the start of the run by the timing gate doing 49.85 knots =92.33 kph. Hitting at this speed instantly catapulted me over the front breaking my mast sail boom. I landed on my back and hit into the water very hard with my back and head. I am ok, just feel a little stiff in the neck and back. Hopefully will be feeling good tomorrow.

Luderitz can be brutal on the body and I'm not talking about the Diaz Coffee shop or the Cake & Beer out at the lighthouse. Here is the wind lofting Laufers gear and getting a little brutal on it. When it's blowing 50 just about everything wants to fly.

^^ When are you going back to get us an Aussie flag in that 50 list?? I'll buy you a carton of your favourite if you do!

Of course if he had a normal boom he'd have had something to hold on to other than the luff and probably would not have lost it in the first place.

Looking at the video of his "boom break" crash and the way the Leeward arm was cut off at the head in the above image I would not be surprised if the windward arm just pulled out of the head under the load.

Looks like they had a good day at L?deritz:

Looks like Hans got a bit faster again over 500m. Gunnar's consistency is pretty impressive, with 5 out of 7 runs over 50 knots, but Twan is getting closer to his top speed.

Miriam Rasmussen said on her blog that she held back today, but she still shows a 2 second speed of 43.82 seconds (www.miriamrasmussenwindsurfing.com/post/first-day-in-luderitz), that's almost 2 seconds faster than the current #1 entry on GPSTC for women. She's also posted a cool video on her Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ptmiriam/. I love how she jumps up and down for joy when she sees her speed.

Based on what Miriam wrote, it was very gusty yesterday, so Gunnar could not beat Hans' 500 meter run from November 6, despite a higher 10 second speed.

Today looks promising, the first runs are starting to show up on http://gps-speed.com/AutoUpdate.php?fbclid=IwAR1Uzeaxel3JkJ3qjWkn7h0VjnX9dP6VkKpMZ9S8LFhPDD7MR-QpIbnkcFY. A kiter just did 55.84 on his first run. That's unchecked, but sounds pretty fast already.
