I'm thinking about joining the foil comp and slalom comps next year. There are only 4 slalom events per year, and if the race is in super light winds, I would consider a 135-150L 91cm wide board to help with early planning and gibe exit speed in marginal winds. Obviously if it was windier I'd quickly change down to a 120 or smaller...
So for the foiling, some of the specialist boards look weird. They might be great slalom boards too, but I'm not so sure. Anyway, anyone got a good view on new batch of foil/race boards that work with a fin and foil?

Try the falcon light wind, I've had one for 18 months now, great foil board with7-8m sail and great with the fin and 8-9m sails. Particularly if you have a smaller board for stronger wind. The largest of the Falcon slaloms TE 140 might also suit, depending on your weight.

If you want to race a foil competitively you pretty much need a dedicated foil board now, or a very modern formula board (which I imagine will still be eligible to race in Aus next season) I can't imagine any of them make a good slalom board. Likewise a good slalom board is not going to make a good foil board....but probably the better option if you just want one board as it will be a better foil board than the foil board will be slalom board.

Basically, if you're serious you're going to need 2 boards.

Hi Berowne, one thing to note is that the current GPS/Slalom rules limit us to 85cm boards (and 10m sails). Foiling is allowed but can't be on a board wider than 85cm. Maybe the NSW rules could be changed for next season?

I'm sure you could still be mid fleet in the foil comp with an 85cm board if you wanted to go that way. I have a 91cm Exocet Foil board but have never tried it with a fin.

Look forward to doing some racing with you next season.

I can only attest to what has already been said. If you want a light wind board which can also be used for uncompetative freeracing against friends I'd recommend looking at the lengths and tailwidths. The shorter lightwind boards make the best foilboards, so the fanatic lightwind is a great option.

i have however seen that most people who get into foiling almost never want to go back to normal windsurfing in the lighter winds, so I wouldn't recommend making that a hard criteria. If it is for racing, well than you have a bit of a problem and would just recommend getting a second hand formula from about 2010 or later with the wider tails and the footstraps very far back compared to the box (PD formula's the later F2 boards are great), and getting a slalomboard next to it.

I think a slalomboard would be more competative in foiling than the other way round, but in the foiling races you would still be very handicapped, the difference between a real foilboard and a slalomboard can be as mich as 20 degrees in upwind angle.
