Edit. The comments section on Youtube serves as a warning: "When does this commercial end? ...oh wait, the whole thing is a commercial."
But it has its moments.

Too right, SP. Could have easily made the classic old surf cars thread too.
Thanks for posting it, Stuk. Made me nostalgic for a time that was just before my time.

Well I joined the dark side and got a 2nd hand 9'0 yahoo classic malibu the other day.

Put the fin box back in and took it out today. Took a couple of waves to get the feel of her but crikey I can see why you fellas love your longboard so much.

I've always appreciated the skill involved in riding one well, and even more so now I've had a crack at it. Couldn't stop grinning at how many waves I got. Even managed some cut backs and floaters.

Tried hanging 5 but always at the end of the ride when there was not much juice left in the wave.

Still an absolute blast. The videos posted here are inspiration for what to have a go at.

Thanks Greeney! Some nice stuff in there.

MickPC - funny seeing Devon bite it on that board - must be a bitch to ride.

Macaha / Greeny,

Life changed

Who knew that a big stick was so much fun? Had a 7'8 crozier back in the lat 70's as a grom but that was just for messing around on and throwing rocks at, damn it makes me sick to think what we wasted in ignorance.

Anyhow, loving riding this thing so much that I have actually splurged and given myself a birthday pressie in the form of a used Stewart SLX 9'0 Hydro Hull. Was actually looking for a Walden Magic (not the mega) but they seem fairly rare, so going the Stewart instead.

Been riding 1 to 2' waves at my local and getting some ripper rides in on the Yahoo 9'0. Peeling little rights that no one else can be bothered with that carry from the outside bank all the way in with a ripper little reform section towards the shore. Figuring anything below 3' and the long board is the weapon of choice.

I'll work my way up from that once I feel a bit more "at one" with the Stewart, it should actually suit better than the Yahoo which is much more of a 25 year old performance shape with a good deal of rocker in it.

Good on you, Hydroman. Longboarding got me back in the water and smiling again when I'd lost my short board mojo. I like Ryan Burch's surfing and seemingly joyful approach... and he rips on everything from a 4'10 chunk of styrofoam to a 14ft glider. Always with a smile.
Enjoy the glide!

Watchout Hydro, longboards are
really fun in good waves as well! As long as you have he right stick! A good longboard in solid, clean waves is absolute joy

Well I've been having a blast between the 7'8 Walden mini magic, and my Yahoo 9'0 longboard.

Went out in 0.5m swell with between 1 to 2 ft waves last weekend. Obviously not up to scratch for everyone else as only me and a bloke called Leighton out. L ride an old school shape mal and absolutely nails it, not shredding but steeze and some shred mixed in. We had right hand runners all the way to the shore where the reformed and ran along the beach for a quick nose riding finish.

What an absolute blast, and I actually managed to do some turns and a couple of foam climbs. Still don't got the cool cross step dancing shoes figured out but the glide is addictive.

Why didn't one of you old buggers tell me this earlier?

@garymc_surf might be on a break. His Insty page doesn't appear to be up at the moment.
