Some advice please, Im going on a long awaited OS trek to escape our ****e winter... heading to Sanur and Nusa Lembongan the first two weeks of august. I have never been out to the island and wondering which board I should take for the trip. My choice is either the 8'8 v2 flow or 9' casey revolution??? Im leaning towards the 9'0 mainly as I imagine there may be a bit of paddling distance to the various breaks??? Any info/feedback would be greatly appreciated, also any info on good SUP breaks around the sanur area?
At Samur, paddle across lagoon to near metal structure and find your way across the reef - depends on tide a bit. I tend to paddle up and down thr reef.
There are several dinghys to take you over and pick you up. I tend to go very early, before dawn, so have to paddle over.
I like the break south across the chanel (watch out for inter island ferries steaming through).
As to what board I would have thought the Flow at that time but I have not ridden a Revolution.
Hopefully water has cleaned up over there.
Never been to Nusa Lembogan.
Keep us updated bomberdave on how you are go over there. I m keen to do something similar in the near future. Is your revolution a 9' X 28 as I'm considering getting one of those. Cheers have a great trip.

No mate im a fat old bloke (96+KG)..its the 9x30 but it rips!!!!
I've got a 10'x29" starboard Longboard, it's brilliant but wouldn't mind down sizing. I'm only 70 kg so possible I could even go down to 26.6"
Nusa Lembangan, it's a relatively very short paddle out to the 3main breaks. Two reasonably heavy waves, with a bit of swell, another more mellow wave that gets very crowded. Another wave on the other side of island, but you would not paddle their either way. Just make sure you paddle back in before tide gets too low.
Hi BD, we're leaving as u arrive Bali.
Haven't been over to the island,
but Sanur surf you have a broad range of waves out front, left n right of the tower (approx 600m) Burgers across channel (top of Sarangan Island) add another few hundred m. Add more 100s if you go down the island where the LSR pics were taken..(better to crew up with others n hire a boat). Local surf boats will show you a choice of waves.
If you're a dawn riser, get down to RipCurl to catch-up expat crew for their tips hope that helps with distance, usually no wind early getting across inner lagoon.
Enjoy
Another tip re: nusa lembongan. Catch the earliest boat you can. Once the wind gets up it can get pretty ruggered.
Thanks Gents, It will bloody awesome just to get away from the ****e weather we are having here in Vico at the mo...
Hey BD,
Not sure how you will go at Lembongan in August with swell direction etc but there are some beauty waves there...
I've been over a few times and haven't supped everywhere on the island but have had a ton of fun in the Playgrounds area. In the photos, the 'X' is where the boats will drop you off... from there:
1. - Playgrounds, crackin little peak with a left and right. Great fun and easy to get to. Can get crowded
2. - Not sure this areahas a name but across the channel there are small peaks to be had. I would predict in a bigger swell this would become a significant R brake along the channel
3. Lacerations, medium to fast reef break holds a large swell, would imagine it lives up to its name if you mess it up
4. Shipwrecks, long paddle out and again, seems to be a pretty intense wave
In the other photo, the area off the bottom of Ceningan island is Secret point. I haven't supped it but have drooled significantly over the left hander that wraps across there. A mate surfs it a lot and loves it. Heavy, Fast but totally rippable. Its worth hiring a bike and taking a cruise over there just for a look anyway. Used to be seaweed farms on the reef in front but I think they may have been removed.
Big Hugg has given you the good oil on the Sanur Breaks.... if you an jump on a boat to Serangan Island you wont be disappointed. Talk to the Rip Curl Crew. The 9ftr will be a good choice....

Nah... tide n cross wind was making it tuff for good proners to get a decent run. Tamarind n Mushroom had less crowded easy Sup waves .

That day started at 1 ft and I took the family on a snorkeling trip around island. Within a couple of hours only myself and my two boys were able to swim against swell and current and unfortunately we heard of someone from another boat drowned at a spot that we just left. By the time we got back to hotel I snapped that picture.

Re Seaweed farms, they are back full on. Seaweed has been the island's main economy through covid, the island's had 4 months Biosecurity lockdown with no boats in .
They did it tough. Tourism Just starting to get going now, paying up front allows them to do repairs and refurbished to get more accommodation available for use. Friendly village vibe made up for anything that wasn't quite there yet
