Just a word of caution to the 1 or 200 kiters that will head to altona tomorrow for the predicted easterly/ southeasterly .

Altona on Australia day will be packed with families and kids everywhere as they have a festival in the park with street parades
and sandcastle building on beach etc etc
There will be a lot of people if not on beach due to the high wind then all along the footpath .
Certainly there will be no parking at all .

Please can all be very careful and help other kiters as we don't want any accidents .
Might be best to stay a bit further away from the pier as it will also be crowded .
Remember it is a great kiting spot and you would not be popular if you put that in jeopardy.
Otherwise enjoy your Australia Day.

I was there around noon and there wasn't any wind. Later in the afternoon I drove to Point Danger and it was on. It was for a 6 to 8 meter kite weather. I was on a 7 meter kite an another kite surfer on a 6 meter REO. There were 4 windsurfer. It was wind swell but fun and clean in the inside. cheers

FWIW I went to Balnarring for the first time 16-18 knots ESE, wind kind of picked up around 3-4pm.

Unbelievably the most BORING place to kite, no waves, no flat water. Had to use my twin tip and jump orange buoys just to make it even a bit interesting.

Might take my family there as I can watch people kite and realize I am not missing out on much.

Great beginner spot, and there were plenty of them there. I would rate this place as St Kilda.

The local sailing club appears to welcome or tolerate kiters, but also use the kiter traffic as an opportunity to sell more memberships!

The wind picked up at Altona around 430pm(ish) for and 1-2h hour then dropped back at about 6pm
was good while it was windy, enjoyed the opportunity of the east and did a trip to Skeleton Waterholes creek (near pt cook) and then across past the pier and back.
