Hey peeps,

Wondering if theres a whatsapp/similar group for kiters up this way? I live in Port Sorell and haven't seen too many about, I generally travel if the wind is elsewhere though!

Cheers

Hard to say, most times I'm out, there is no one around but probably 5 or 6 regulars around Stanley. Most people I meet on the west coast are tourists from Hobart.

There's a group of us on viber. But things are really in a lull up here. A lot of the time when it's blowing I have trouble finding anyone much interested in getting wet.

I mostly drive to stanley to kite these days

Hi Alex, was out today for an early morning foil session, tomorrow looks pretty avg maybe the ab farm, maybe round lunch-ish, tide will be out a long way later in the day. Friday looking good to foil east inlet, maybe peggs... looks pretty crappy on the forecast for Sat & Sun so far.
Nothing to dangerous about its all pretty shallow and not to tricky. How long are you round for?

Hi Tyro, i headed back to cradle mountain, waiting for better luck with the weather (strapless with 8m and 12m - can not do much 2 days ago). Heading to Port Sorell now. Do you know the place there? Any advice? Cheerio

Hi Alex, sounds like a good plan, today was the best day we've had in some time and there were quite a few ppl out at Stanley in the east inlet, a few guys were on 11/12m kites, but we've had no decent swell in ages. I don't have any experience with spots further up the coast I'm sorry but it sounds like you've headed to the right place, I'm pretty lucky to live near to Stanley and I don't have to travel to far to kite. Hopefully someone else can give you some info on where to go. Will you be back in Stanley at all (Looking at the forecast now, if you are coming back, Marrawah may be your best option early next week Tue/Wed) or will you travel somewhere else? I'm heading to Bridport for the new year if anyones going to be out or has an idea where I should try let me know as well.

Can be some good kiting around port sorrel, but the forecast for the next few days no looking too promising. I usually park just near the caravan park at the end of rice street.

Getting around to bakers beach (the other side of the river, into natawntapu) can be pretty good too. Some people pump up in port sorrel and kite out the river mouth to get to bakers - not something I have tried myself

Hi guys,

A few days ago when I was on my way to Port Sorell I noticed that on Moorland Beach, on a low tide, a big sand patch shows up and creates nice pond on both sides which makes this place good for all kinds of winds actually.

The only concern is Devonport Airport which is like 1km from this place

I'm not sure what the regulations are but I would rather not risk it.
It doesn't hurt to ask tho... Have you heard of anyone kiting there?

I kite just to the east of the headland (Pardoe northdown conservation area on your photo) often, but never at low tide. The rocks are absolutely brutal, and the water is too turbid to see them. Good way to lose a fin (and maybe a toe).

I kite at high tide when there is a good swell running. It cleans up as it comes around the point and it's one of the best waves you'll get around here (second only to Zac's when it's on)

You see the planes coming in but you are not in the flight path. I've always worried I'm being naughty but never been an issue yet

Where you're looking at is definitely outside the flight path. I reckon you'd get away with it

Next few days easterlies. I'l be at east inlet a bit and there's a few others that are likely to do the same

I'm not on whatsapp, and I hope to stay that way. Refuse to have a relationship with Facebook

Hi. I'm new here, but somewhat tempted since watching at Stanley on new years day.
I've got some good footage but can't post yet being a new member.
the forum seems a lot quieter than I was expecting, does everyone collaborate elsewhere or is it that there aren't many of you?

Hi tasadam,

I don't know how the kiters communicate but I think it's a WhatsApp or Fakebook. There are a few of us who just 'go', and to a range of venues between Port Sorrell and Beechford, depending.
Greens Beach is brilliant on a less than half tide and NW wind.

On a big day you'll find 5 or 6 on the water, but often only 1 or 2.
There is a very wide range of skills and interests on the water. Personally, I like it nice and quiet...
