Thumbs Up

I thought I had a solid nomination for Kiteboarder of the Year but the D-Bah rider sounds hard to beat so the runner up is the battler who kited around the swimmer at Marcus Beach during a Sunshine Coast downwinder yesterday.

The swimmer was standing in waste deep water about 10m off the beach and said Douche thought it would be sic to use him as a slalom buoy. With his gut flapping in tune to the chop hits he rode away oblivious to adding another member to the "we think Kiteboarder are dickheads" beach user lobby group.

Special mention goes to his mate riding the surfboard with front strap only (impressive setup) who lost his board 25m up wind from a group of kids playing in the shore break. He managed to retrieve his board before it reached the swimmers but it might be worth while thinking a little about possible consequences when you are close to making that exciting transition to being able to stay upwind.

It is completely unnecessary (and probably in breach of some maritime regulation including Common Sense) to kite within any proximity to swimmers especially when you are an intermediate kiter riding a beach with only a handful of swimmers every 300m. I'm sure the Sunshine downwind crew were high fiving their Keahi like performance in the 1ft wind swell but you guys had beach goers shaking their heads at what dickheads you are.

Yours sincerely,
Alistair
