Hi Marty

Lots of brands do something similar to the edge
North/duotone Rebel
Core XR
Airush Vantage
The Kite most similar might be the Flysurfer Boost with its fixed bridle

I've tried the rebel before. I liked it but found that it has heavier bar pressure, and had less float. Felt really solid compared to the edge ( the edge has really thin leading edge)

Ive heard that the Airush union is similar to an edge. I'll read up on the vantage.

Looking at latest reviews of the 2019 rebel it too has a thinner leading edge than old. Not sure what model u flew.

i had a demo of the new rebel 10m a few weeks back, in what was marginal wind fo a 10m. Given that i normally ride a dice I expected obvious heavy bar pressure and slow kite, But in contrast felt it was quite a good compromise with only subtle variation but the extra struts held me in much more controllable decent vs dice for my 95kg. In comparison to the xr 10m i demoed for a couple of sessions yhe bar pressure and pull of the kite was significantly higher, granted the kite was much more powered on those occassions.
Worth a demo of the new rebel if you can get yr hands on one. Ive never flown a edge so cant compare feeling of bar pressure

Airush union is nothing like an edge. Couldn't be more different.

There is nothing like an edge.

So demo a new edge.

Then a bew rebel

then a core XR5.

Then you will up buying an edge because the edge is the edge and there isn't anything similar.

Haha - totally agree Eppo........ union is nothing like an edge - if you are after an 'edge like' kite the by all means try the above but you'll end up with an edge - they are great kites

When I jumped on your rebel it was I felt a similar though not exact same feeling Kite and easy to adjust, was a tough decision after I had a play on v9 9mtr getting the enduro v2, I'd bloody love an 8 edge though up here

In January I had an Edge fanboy at Kurnell insist that my Union was the Airush version of the Edge. I think because it jumped so well and landed really softly. The Union is more of an all rounder than the Edge, it unhooks well if trimmed properly and drifts nicely too. The Vantage is more high aspect and more of a race/freeride kite.

Enjoy you're demoing, kites have got better.

Hi guys, I ended up buying two 9m edges - one 2013 model that I'm still waiting on delivery when my parents drive up to brisbane and a 2017 that I decided to buy after a massive tax return. Took it out today in 18kn at Sandgate and had a great time. Everyone else was on 12 and 14m kites but I had no problem keeping up and doing some small jumps. Loving it.

When the 2013 model arrives I might do a review comparison of all three edges if anyone is interested. Could be fun to see the evolution of the design. One thing that is immediately obvious is that the leading edge of the 2008 is much smaller in diameter.

Is is anyone interested to see the review?

I would be interested to see your review on those three edges Marty. Ive had 2008 , 2010 , 2012, 2015 edges and I still miss my 2008 . That 2008 is one special kite. Looking forward to see your thoughts.

I'll do it before Xmas when the 2013 arrives, although I don't know if I'll bother flying the 2013 though.

Another thing I noticed yesterday is that the 2008 bar is still going strong whereas the newer ozone bars have padding that is coming away already. Must be crappy glue they use now.

Lastly, do you think it's ok to sell an old kite like the 2008 edge I have? It's still in working order but no one can guess how long it will keep going for. It's been through a lot...

^^^make sure you try the 2013 with the late model bar and lines....

i still I'll have my 2013 model 9m, which I won't part with, and have been using 2018 bar and lines....makes a difference IMO

that little 9m has spanked me harder than my 11m....wicked little kite!

You must try the v9 edge. For me it's been the best one so far, it just keeps giving and giving. It has a way better top end than previous edges me thinks.

If that 2008 of yours was an 11m Marty I would def be interested in buying it, damn shame. Had heaps of fun with my 11 from 15 to 30 knots , huge wind range . It had a fixed fifth line attached to a bridle across the middle more than likely because of the very small diameter LE . That's why it flew so fast because of the very small diameter LE .

What sizes did you get?

The "Instinct" series of Ozone kites evolved from a single model when Ozone first produced inflatable kites in 2006, to 3 by 2008. There was the Instinct Light, one of the first 3 strut kites, which evolved into the Catalyst and now Enduro. Instinct Sport was a 5 strut kite which evolved into the C4, and the Instinct Edge, which became just the Ozone Edge. I agree with everyone, there is nothing like the Edge, lots of imitations though.
The Instinct series of kites were designed by David Pilkington one of Ozone's 3 owners), because Rob Whitall was having a break from Ozone. Matt Taggart managed to persuade Rob to come back as head designed for Ozone kites and the rest is history. Ozone created their own software called OzCad to assist with the design of their kites (which came from the paraglider side of the business).

Hi,

all of the edges I now own are 9m.

I just took the v8 out yesterday in 25 kts. It has soooo much power and lofty floaty jumps. It's going to take some getting used to. I was scared to pull the bar all the way in

CF Hyper is like a Edge . Better low end then XR5 , I use my 9m from 7m/s ( 95kg) jump like XR5 , better quality, no pully same bar presure , better loops.

looked at the hyper close up, really well built, tbh i thought overly done as a low end kite, certainly a quality product,
