As a complete new person, I look at my 2nd hand board and see that it has provision for a tether (I presume to my leg). I get the sense that people don't use a tether and I was wondering why.

Seemed like a good idea to keep track of the board should I (inevitably) become separated from it. like the surf or boogy board simply pull it back in when i crash.

These are other peoples images I've just borrowed. But this is what happens when you use a board leash

My advice is to learn to body drag back to your board, don't use a leash. Just Google it Bryan:

As an absolute beginner I promise it is not hard to body drag upwind and retrieve the board. Your teacher will sort you out.

You need to kite with the hotshots in WA at the outer weef. They all swear by board leashes. Although I think the outer weef is actually a 1 foot shore break.
Here we go again..
Board leashes are sick, dangerous and for guy's with tunnel vision.. But those retractable leashes, well they're so good. Pm for details where to buy and also pm for the best insurance for personal accident n injury policy that you might need as the Doctor recommends
