G'day - Looking for someone to teach me how to kitesurf from either Mackay - Bowen. Living in Whitsundays.
I've got all the gear but no idea! Available for Sunday 22nd, Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th September.
Cheers legends!

You should pay for lessons mate from a qualified instructor. That is the best way to start then later you may find people prepared to help you on the journey once you know your equipment, safety, right of way and hopefully be getting up on the board. You may even find that the equipment you have is not suitable for you and need to reinvest.
This is for your safety and those of the people around you. Don't be cheap as you may save yourself a kitemare.

Pretty sure there is a shop up that way that give free lessons in exchange for $200. Not a bad deal to not die or end up in hospital .

I feel for those that have to fork out $$$ to learn to "ride a bike" essentially.
My advice: just look and learn a lot from the locals, talk to them and find out who is willing to cut you a deal (beers sometimes works). And watch Progression DVDs. The main thing is to learn the way wind works and does not work (!!). The wind-window, location, lows and highs, or you could take lessons in sailing to generally to get the idea of wind. Then use that to learn kite control, landing, launching, parking, etc etc... if you really really can't afford lessons, then how did you get the gear? Who ever sold it to you, should have offered lessons. Above all don't go out on your own. Hey, and if you're passing through Townsville, say hi. I can teach you.

Invest the money in lessons with a qualified instructor. A lot of people can kite really good but are absolutely sh** at putting the what you need to do into words, especially if situations get weird/dangerous. It is also way faster progression wise with a school.

Hmm.. sigh.. yeah qualifications... LOL

yeah.. stands there shouting pull the kite, pull it, let go of the bar, that's it... try again.., what are you doing! swears a bit... customer looks a bit shocked... puts customer on kite in 1st lesson... gets slammed and body dragged... more yelling...

Yeah the IKO way.... what a fantastic qualification.

keep giving your opinion on how to be dangerous, maybe you'll be able to fool someone.

That's a matter of opinion.

In the early days, almost no one got lessons, but hey, in those days the kites were far more dangerous.
