I've been to both Kite Surfari and Kalpitiya
Both have pros and cons.

I liked Kite Surfari more because it was in Aus, less people in the water...

kalpitiya was busy ... Had to compete for flat water unless you did a downwinder to another spot (which was epic) about $50 US.

If you consider to ride on this side of the globe (Europe)

- Marocco, Dakhla. Best freestyle spot ever. But laguna of shallow water and hot thermal wind with about 20 knots constant
- Marocco, Agadir. Clean, left side waves of infinite length. You can ride a single wave for minutes and end up on the other side of the city. For me, number one spot for wave riding

- Cape Verde, Sal Island. Best spot for big waves plus you can see people like "Airton Cozzolino" or "Matchu" riding near you. It's probably the most difficult spot I have been but I would love to come back, really amazing riders there

- Turkey, west coast. Choppy/Flat water all over the coast. Windy 75% of the year between 15-25 knots. Chances to get a windy day are very high. Great food and cheap location

- Egypt, all over. Flat water, hot thermal wind. Cheap. Just pay attention to the reefs, it's full of them

- Sardegna, Italy. Amazing spot, water crystal clear and beautiful landascapes. It's not always windy so you may get the "wrong week" and end up eating Italian food and drinking wine all day long. Cheap food, beautiful area of Italy, it deserves a trip in my opinion

Kitesurfing Lanka was cool. Was very crowded and choppy as mentioned above. Food and Vella island was definitely the best part about Sri Lanka.

Kite surfari is awesome, when I was there the lagoon was choppy but it changes a lot. The food and owners are awesome.

Hawaii is cool too but out of all these places, I can't wait to get home and kite at my local.
Iv traveled to most big kite destinations and haven't found a better place then my backyard.

Yeah but for the effort and bloody cost, Australia has soooooooooo many more options. The last thing I want is the risk of having to get out of an argument with a local because all I did was barter him to sell me his crappy watches for $1 less than what he wanted. Happened in Bali. Don't get me wrong, travelling to other countries is amazing, but for kite surfing - just to kite and boost and learn tricks on flat water - Australia has it all... and more. Nothing like a kiting holiday around the top end of Oz mate, and cold beers and mates. Easy peasy.

Mui nee vietnam,
Gets crowded, and there is nothing else to do, seriously.

Great fun, the food was odd.
Mosty American style, cooked for Russians by Vietnamese.

The hotel had the kite centre incuded, with the beach boy and coaches, and the bar/resturant facing the beach.
When it got to crowded just sit in the resturant watching, drinking.

Freindly people and good fun.

12 to 18knots?? Really, i wouldnt bother going out in less than 18 let alone paying to go somewhere and thats the max!
Hood river in Oregon is great, Hawaii too but both very crowded. There are alot of great places in Australia with very little crowds and great conditions. We just keep them secret

12-18kts
Yeah let's go on a light wind kite holiday
Kiting with a bunch of Australian Bogans
Thinking they're killing it
Acting like they own the place
While whining about all the places back home with actual wind being over run with bogans
Oh the irony
Bet you think that ladyboy really is a woman trapped in a man's body and he-she really loves you for who you are, cause you 'such a big strong boy'

Can't think of any thing worse

I wouldn't bother with Mui Nee. The wind was good and there most days but it's pretty average apart from that. It takes about 5-8 hours to drive there from the airport. Water gets super crowded, water is not flat or got waves somewhere in the middle. There are better spots out there.

Aitutaki.
Got 4/5 days and used my 9m,12m&18m.
a whole days travel at either end but very worth it. Water colour has to be seen to be believed and some incredibly flat shallow warm water as well as some deeper choppier stuff. Untouched paradise with limited tourist numbers due to distance to get there. Have heard horror stories about getting skunked with no wind for 10 days so needs to be timed carefully. Would go again.

carting around a 18m you get 4/5 days anywhere on earth you would have to basicly find a place where the pressure doesnt change meaning no temperature difference meaning no wind .... the only place you can go in the world with a 9m 12m and 18m is a bloody cave and not get 4/5 days

how many days did you not use the 18m AT ALL entire day. on aitutaki ? are we looking a little more like 3/5? 2/5?

I just got back from Zanzibar last week. It wasnt windy (5kts max), because the season ended a month ago. Which wasnt the point of my trip (which was to chill out after a safari) and that suited the missus just fine. But I sure will be back one day when it is! (march - september). it basically looks like this:
