Hey gang
Today, I had the pleasure of having someone run into my kite at Monterey where Kitepower teach. We exchanged numbers as he agreed to pay for repair of my kite that was ripped in half. Long story of how it happened, but the dog gave me a false number. He is a noob, wearing a helmet, flying a yellow Cabrinha 12 (unsure of year or model, I gave up following all that years ago). If anyone knows him and feels like correcting a bad situation, please let me know. Ari, if thats your real name and you're reading this, this a chance for you to make it right. Last year I was on a starboard tack out through the surf when someone tomahawked a kite in front of me.
bang kite hits water and I wear a line to the ribs. I had no chance to react it happened so quick. It stopped me dead like hitting concrete- winding me. I was lucky to be wearing a wetsuit and also lucky he did not release his kite. I freed myself from his lines and went on kiting. Following that other guys kite was munched by a number of waves.
should I pay for the repair of his kite? He did not ask and I did not offer. We were both happy no one was seriously injured. My ribs were purple for two weeks.

if your kiting botany, kooks/learners/people who should be cyclists/golfers are the inherent risks right up there with the water bogans (jet skiiers) and you need to lower your expectations accordingly. The place is a zoo, and you need to accept if you play with fire then you might get burnt.
Curious how he ran into your kite? Was it in the water and ran straight over it?
Did he intentionally give you the wrong number or was there a transcription error?
Thanks Cauncy for the heads up. I'll remember that next time. ;-)
Simom78. I know **** happens and happens fast. But this situation was avoidable. Dude could have turned down wind, stopped or turned around. Sorry to hear of your injuries. Fortunately this time it was only my kite that got ****ed up.
Billy, it hindenburged in a hole in the wind. After 3-4 loops to keep it flying, it floated down upside down. No way to keep it flying. Just fell outta the sky. My arse was in the water watching it all happen in slow motion. Dude said he saw it "flopping around in the air" but still didn't change course. I hate that spot, but desperation got the better of me that day. Definitely no transcription error. Dude lied and gave a fake number.
