I have been asking myself and being asked is Foiling going to get bigger. Until now I was 50/50, this video is making me think yes!
Enjoy,
Greg is a rockin' good dude and his skill level is mighty high. He will always take the time out to help....his vids are what got me into strapless foiling. Still would rather ride waves on a surfboard/kite but it has opened up lightwind kiting where I live in a big and challenging way. Foiling is not as boring as one might think just by watching it.
wearing a nice dress while you mow the lawn is still mowing the lawn.
maybe you get some sort of level of personal fun from it but its not impressive
best part of the movie was seeing some real kites in the back ground
speaking of strutless. one thing they fail to mention to you bucket heads is that IF you drop it only the leading edge is inflated right? so the entire canopy just gets its **** dragged under the water ripped and caught on all the coral etc etc ive seen those things get completely destroyed where a simple stall has led to the thing being unrecoverable as its wrapped and torn and tied itself several times around a coral head. had to get dive knifes to cut it all away.
as for the board. do i have to post the air chair videos again? **** it why not

go to like 40 seconds in
I'm always astounded by the depth of both your knowledge and ignorance
Ive only just starting foiling and it is so addictive and frustrating. im pretty impressed by this clip. Not super sold on the strutless kites

Why don't you post a video of yourself and your definition of impressive skills?
Have you even tried foiling?
It must be quite a nice smooth sensation bobbing around without touching the water. Would give it a crack if one doesn't need to sell a kidney to afford a foil board.

taught it booorrreeeinnngggggg
much better things to do in light winds.
only useful part of hydrofoiling is it helps with maintaining forward speed in waves when island hopping or going from A to B but i prefer to tow stuff so it didnt pay off to much
oh and good for your old arthritic knees
Beautiful. Almost like ballet.
Ballet. Perhaps.
It reminds me more of clowning.
A clown on a uni-cycle.
The weaving and the flowing and the weaving.
And of course the bar-work is the juggling act.
It's pretty cool.
I have been asking myself and being asked is Foiling going to get bigger.
You wish. lol. ^^^
Folks,
That so-called foiling vid that you just viewed ...
You do you realize that vid was an ad for Cloud Kites, don't you ?
lol.
It actually showed kites in action. (that's different )
(Note how Greg purposely flew the kite really low to the water so it was always in shot).
SMART.
The kite looked tight as a drum too.
And a 3.5m to boot, wow.
The guy knows marketing.
But it's a tough battle for him.
He's fighting against the status quo, you know.
He's trying to sell a product that's totally contrary to bog standard.
I say power to him. Go you good dude.

If you watched the vid you'd see he's doing deliberate kite drop transitions, rolling the kite under on the water before launching the opposite way.. while foiling. 2:25 for example.
Never seen anyone else do that.
But the kite sure doesn't stick to the water.

One of the nice things about Greg, is he will ask you a bunch of questions to determine if the Cloud style of kite is suitable for you.
He prefers to lose a sale if he knows the purpose is unsuitable.
They are not a race kite, they are not a big boosting kite ..... but they are brilliant on foils, lawn mowing, in the surf, light wind, high wind.

Enjoy,
I am maybe wondering if this new found interest has anything to do with the new Naish Foil.
Is it due soon?

cant remember if i saw it out on the water in maroochydore couple weeks ago with the rest of the naishe toys ...... im sure jason will let us know when its time
kiteboy dave... it is for all intensive purposes a fishing net. it DOES stick in the water. go chuck your kite in the swimming pool with all the struts deflated. now imagine theres a current, whats going to happen? the canopy acts like a great big sail (remember water basicly acts exactly like a gas so if you ever want to wonder what wind is doing think of water and vice versa) so the kite in underwater world is exactly this. a big ass sailing boat (the leading edge is the boat) and the canopy is the sail, and the currents are the wind filling the sail and pushing the boat. only difference is we have trees rather then giant sharp pointy boulders of coral.
i really dont care how the inventor of the kite flys his kite. if the videos not in 1 shot then it doesnt really show you anything. also ive flown one myself and know how it behaves. but i didnt need to because ive flown non inflateable 2 line surf kites with a back harness (basicly a padded belt you just slip behind your lower back that is attached to the 2 kite lines) these things were almost identical to the "cloud" that all you are frothing over as some sort of new invention except instead of the inflated leading edge was just a carbon rod simular to your tents. again very small sizes 3's 5's etc and without all the weight would haul ass on a 6 while inflatables would be on 10m's
but hay what the **** do i know david
Ho hum...
Just waiting for Marvin or Florien to come in here and say something more constructive and professional, to put all your crap to rest.
Kite foiling is nothing new, but it seems there is a general rise in interest about it this past year or two. The scene on Maui now has a lot of crew foiling, even on the windier days. Hence why Naish (and most other brands) are producing. I had my doubts as to whether or not it would take off, but think it is gaining momentum and believe it will (even got me hooked).
Yes the Naish Foil is very close, very very close.
Don't knock it til you really try it.
Ride safe,
JB
Ahhh,, Bad knees are one of the reasons I look forward to mastering it (I can kinda do it).
Certainly it looks interesting, but not not amazing from the outside.
Unfortunate though, you just can't appreciate it, until you can do it.
And you cant do it, until you can.
So opinions from those who cant do it are just that. (Valid as opinions, but not informed).
Not sure what I just said, but I will run with it.
Cheers
ps.. I f##$%n love it....

i think you said it just right. Ah well, who knows I give it a try in 5 years when i have more grey haires. For now i stick to a bit more action
Foiling is the modern day golf.
I'll give it a go when my knees are cactus.
It is really nice on your knees.

Foiling is way more fun than golf :) think of it like this - do I want to double / triple my days on the water ?
If not, that's cool. Play golf. Otherwise get on board.
