Hey guys, just coming back from a weekend at lake St Clair campground. Close to singleton.
The wind was blowing and the spot looked so great to kite surf. Lots of space, good launch spots.
Any one know if it is allow to kite there?
(PS: I know there are spots 1h drive on the beach, but just wanted to know about the lake)
Kitesurfing is not a crime
Higher altitude air behaves different to sea level air.
Wind passing over obstacles is all sorts of mixed and washy and sheary and turbulent etc etc and if there is no seabreeze effect can be more thermic ala air moves up and down (hot air hits an object like a row trees then due to its temperature floats up in big bubbles and colder air moves down around these bubbles to fill the void)
So what i often find when kiting inland is ill think sweeeeet!! Whitecaps its onnnn but the cycles are much more inconsistent then coastal. This translates too rideing out in middle lake or river or dam then having wind die or change directions often. Windsurfers are somewhat more suited to inland sailing then kites due to this.
Moral of story is never go ANYWHERE without your gear. You would be amazed how many times ive been at the movies or in coles and everyones so interested in why im wearing a rubber suit with a hook on the front and i get to explain much to theyre delight how awesome unhooking and boots are
What a great spot eh? I scoped out the joint about three years ago, I reckon if you weren't allowed there would be signs up like at grahamstown lake down the hill. Anyway you are allowed to sail and wakeboard there so surely... btw while I was there at about 1400 this fkn weird hot perfectly consistent 30kn wind picked up and pumped through the campground from the east for about 40min then died away completely. It was freaky as hell and I totally regretted not having a kite.
Lastly as far as I can remember there is a sign warning about power lines across the lake so be carefull dude.
