I booked a domestic kite trip recently and paid for extra 40kg luggage at time of booking but there was also a "large luggage" fee of $15 for my boards because they are over the regular 1.2m. Apparently this is payable "per flight" but I was only charged a one time fee for the return flight so yet to see if it bites me on the arse late July ....

I did a trip with Jetstar from Sydney to Noosa with 2 surfing buddies and my kite bag. Boards had to be under 2M, and they measured them in Sydney but not on the way back. On the way back I was overweight as wetsuit and harness was wet. Lady in Noosa put my overweight onto my buddies allowance as surfboards were lighter than the limit. Depends who checks you in I guess.

I wouldn't worry if I was flying tiger airways, you'll probably crash and die anyway
