In recent years I have used mine lots. 5-6 times I have been hooked up in fishing line. A couple of times from dickheads fishing on the breakwater at the local kite beach. Most times from stray line drifting out in the sea. It's quite nice to whip out the knife, cut the line, keep on riding.

The line has cut a groove into a fin where it rubbed over the edge. There's no way I could break it. My greatest fear is that there might be a hook attached to the end.

Once I landed the kite on a deserted beach during a monster squall. I got the kite down ok but a loop of line hooked around my ankle. I grabbed the knife and cut the line. There was no way I was going to wait around and see what might happen next,

I used to be annoyed that the knife would sit in the ouch for years and get corroded. Rinsing in fresh water doesn't help. At $15 each I buy a couple at a time and just replace the corroded one. They still last a couple years ok.

I have a knife just like that one but rusted out pretty quick. My dakine knife tho is spotless.

Got to be a way to just undo the blade with the screws and just replace the blades.

At $15 a knife, it's easier and better to just replace the knife. I have an NP knife. There's some corrosion spots on the black painted frame. The blades look fine. They certainly work ok on fishing line.

Ive got a nylon rope tied to mine, so if I do drop it I have a chance to recover.

knife and rope tucked into right hand side pouch in harness

You should have a little pocket just under spreader bar, but brand dependant, imho all harnesses should have a knife supplied , if yours hasn't knock something up that you can access easily

Elasticated cord works great but reduces volume of cord reqd, it must be at full reach length though,

I hate losing them out in the water. Found a few from others that have the same problem. The velcro system of them tucked under the spreader bar does not work. There has to be a better design, with a cord long enough to not lose it!

Hmmm, I might need to think through that a bit more
