Hi guys,
I have just replaced a depower line in my bar and was wondering if it's a good idea to cut a piece of some transparent vinyl tube from bunnings and put it on the lines for protection. From what I know kite manufacturers use PU tubes hence my question...
Pros
+ depower lines protected
+ cheap and available everywhere in all kinds of sizes
+ vinyl tube is transparent so you can see what's happening with your depower lines
Cons
- friction? I think vinyl might not be sliding very well inside the bar opening
- doesn't look as nice as a black tube
It's an old bar, I just want a cheap and efficient solution to extend it's life a little bit before investing in a new one
Any thoughts?
Cheers!
Hi Sal.
I wouldnt recommend doing this, there's a good chance the PVC tube will jam the hole as the diameter of the hole was orignally designed for rope, this could happen when you are overpowered and lead to an accident. I dont think it would be worth the risk.
The bar hole diameter does get larger when the Manufacturers use pvc tube or similar covering compared to the rope.
that's a valid argument... however, It's hard to imagine what could actually happen to make jam it so badly so it stops moving
but yeah... **** happens on the water

Because the bar isn't always perpendicular to the power line, actually when it sits at an angle is normally when u want it to slide away from you to depower the kite. Maybe post the same question somewhere else and see what answers you get. I'm no expert, Cheers
Nah, you're right, I've done some testing and it seems like it might jam, or could cause the safety line to not slide properly so I guess that's that ;)
