Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has experimented with different fins when kitesurfing. I have been using the same fibreglass fins for a few years without any issues but yesterday one of them snapped clean off halfway through a turn. Do they become brittle after a while, or is there more chance there was just a small crack that caused it. It was an FCS2 type plug.
I would love to claim that it was because of my earth shattering turns.... but i'm pretty sure it was just equipment failure!
Any advice on whether plastic, fibreglass (or whatever is available these days) is best would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Have a good weekend. Bring on Summer.

did the fin base break or the box where its set in the board?
Quobba sound good and alot of hype around them. Unsure how much of the hype is due to their performance and how much is people justifying their purchase or have an industry hook-up.
Personally i like solid glass fins and am currently running these needessentials.com/collections/accessories/products/thruster-fins
Nice and durable, if its good enough for laurie towner at 30ft couldbreak then good enough for me.
I've snapped many fins, and they were always FCS, you would think fibreglass is strong enough but often the pressure on the fin going upwind is enough to break the fin off the base so you don't need to be going that hard. Ceramic fins will snap pretty much immediately.
Never had trouble with futures fibreglass or plastic, never snapped on me.
But yeah you need to be more specific where exactly it snapped that will explain a bit more.
+1 for Quabbas. Having recently switched to them I would say they give at least a 5 percent increase in upwind ability. Was on Jon Jon Futures and loved them, but the Quabbas really do work. I am 82 ks and am on the medium. I can still break the tail out if I want, but the bite is there when you need it. Really nice release off the top of a wave.
The posts on the FCS I feel are not strong enough for kiting, especially if you jump.
Quobba Yes also tested them at INDO last year with my John John future Definitely better I sell them on my online Shop futures or Quobba's I strongly recommend Quobba's with my boards Re above I only use future boxes on my boards Ditto to Dafish I also use Medium
Thanks! I will do some research on quobbas. After thinking about it, it must have snapped during the turn because it held a rail first then let go.
The fin snapped off flush with the bottom of the board. Both tabs still stuck in the base. The fin box is fine.
Thanks for all of the advice.
