Hi guys,
I was just wondering if there's any alternative to aquaseal/stormsure that I could get from Bunnings? I'm living in a rural area, I'm not sure if I can find Aquaseal locally and I can't be bothered waiting 5 days for the shipment from ebay.
No. There isn't. Believe me, I've tried.
Just send it to Adams kite repair. Let an expert do it.
iv done many valves with stormsure but it's best to let the guys that do it every day do it!
You haven't tried me yet? Or is Adam in QLD now?

I always used aquaseal and I know it can be trusted when applied properly. From what I know it's important that aquaseal remains flexible after curing. Someone in very old threads recommended Shoe Goo (?) or Tarzan Grip General Purpose Glue but I'm not sure if they have similar characteristics.
This one also looks like it could work:

Who's up for The Great Valve Repair Comp !?
A video showing the repair, with the glue of choice and a test video showing it working (or not) - both bladder outside and inside the kite.
I am pretty sure StormSure will win hands down!
anyone make a clamp? instead of using candle holders bottle etc to weight it down
Yes. Thats what I do. Get a hole saw (drill bit) and cut a hole to the size of the outer part of the valve. Clamp to another piece of wood underneath. I use 2 quickgrip clamps to get even pressure.
the tip is to put some talc/flour onto the top piece of wood so that the glue that is compressed out during clamping doesn't stick to it.
You could probably cut a doughnut the correct size out to avoid the problems of glue seeping out and sticking to the wood but it seems more effort for little reward

Funnily I have found my Aquaseal repairs work much better when not clamped... I don't know how it works but I think the glue needs some access to fresh air to cure.
When I clamped my valve it literally came off 2 weeks later and the glue from under the valve was still sticky, after 2 weeks!!! LOL...
Other valves that I glued without any clamping hold for years now. I just apply extra glue on the edges on the top of the valve.

Will do well
Hey, I just checked it's chemical composition and compared it to like 10 other glues and guess what... It contains the exact same ingredient to aquaseal and stormsure which no other glue I checked contained... I think it might be it! Thanks for that.

There we go.. Well done.. and tgrip.(plse research the other names for those chemicals).. . Plse someone research shoeglue I can't be bothered at the moment.. Thanx
I've checked selleys shoe glue, shoe goo, e6000 and others and none of them contained this chemical. What I'm looking for in google is for example "aquaseal MSDS" which is material safety data sheet and has to be available to consumers ;)
cheers

Tarzan no stretch...I did a repair to my leading edge a couple of weeks ago (blowout ) about 7cmx7cm after i cut away the stretched bladder material ,I just cut a patch out of bladder material and glued it yes with tarzan grip straight over the hole with another piece of bladder material on the inside and placed it inside an old phone book weighted down over night then ran a bead of this magic substance around the outside of the patch and bingo pumped her up and she was good to go ..i dont care what ingredients are in the stuff as long as it works ..as i said at the very start of this post i have glued plenty of valves on using tarzan grip an they are all still going strong ..
Yup Yup Yup Yup Yup good on ya four bux and everywhere
Happy days
Glad this post is on here I am completely sick of new shops or people saying just two glues when they are dealing with people jumping unhooking and slamming 20metres from the shore not 4km..bollox
Happydays

Hmm interesting. Your repair method is similar to mine. Which Tarzan grip exactly? I will try this myself
