Victorian Kiteboarders Ramp Up For NKL in Melbourne

Melbourne is both a freestyle and racing mecca for kiteboarders.
The Royal Brighton Yacht Club is gearing up to play host to a massive weekend of watersport action with Round 5 of the Classic Holidays National Kiteboarding League (NKL) and the Foil Board and Twin Tip race coming to Melbourne this weekend.

Held from 27 - 29 January 2017, the top male and female kiters in both Freestyle and Big Air disciplines will be heading for the Grand Final on the Gold Coast, QLD, from 16-19 February 2017.

In a first for the NKL, the Foil Board and Twin Tip race will feature a day of fast fun alongside the kiteboarding competition on Saturday 28 January.

As well as the competition to find Victoria's best ranking kiteboarders, families, adults and kids can try kiteboarding along the beach at the free 'Have a Go' sessions at 11am.

President of Kiteboarding Queensland & Northern Territory Inc. (KBQNT) and NKL Event Director, David De Witt, said the series has been off to a flying start and he can't wait to see what the Melbourne round will bring.

"Last year, both our male and female overall series Champions were Melbourne locals, so we know the talent in Victoria is among the best in the country," said Mr De Witt.

"We are excited to introduce Foil Board and Twin Tip race as a new event which will also be held on Saturday for an action packed day of water fun."

"Plus, anyone in the local area can come down at 11am for our free 'Have a Go Sessions', learn about kiteboarding, get a taste for the sport on a trainer kite and watch on as the state's best battle the wind and the waves."

The Classic Holidays NKL is proudly sponsored by Classic Holidays and Kiteboarding Australia, and supported by industry sponsors Ozone, Cabrinha, North, Axis and Konrad, and exclusive car hire partner, RedSpot.
