Top Victorian Kiters Land Spot in NKL Final

Round 5 of the Classic Holidays National Kiteboarding League (NKL) came to a close in Melbourne yesterday at Dolls Point Beach. Despite a soft start to the competition with marginal wind on Friday, the competition continued on over the weekend with perfect conditions.

Competitors represented the state in Round 5 of the six round series, with the top Freestyle and Big Air riders for the state now heading for the Grand Final from 16 - 19 February 2017 on Queensland's Gold Coast.

At the close of competition, the riders topping the Victorian state rankings were:

Freestyle Men's 1st: Dan Sweeney Men's 2nd: Jarod Snow Men's 3rd: Jesse Bruinsma

Women's 1st: Katie Potter Women's 2nd: Danielle Durrant

Big Air 1st: Aaron Kenny 2nd: Dan Sweeney 3rd: Jesse Bruinsma

President of Kiteboarding Queensland & Northern Territory Inc. (KBQNT) and NKL Event Director, David De Witt, said the riders in Melbourne showed some real talent.

"We would like to congratulate the Round 5 winners and all the competitors for making it a great contest," he said.

"Our male and female winners last season were both from Melbourne so we were not surprised to see some very talented kiters over the weekend."

"We know they will be serious competition at the Grand Final in February on the Gold Coast and we look forward to seeing what the Grand Final has to offer us in a couple of weeks."

The NKL now sets is sights back on the Gold Coast from 16 - 19 February at Narrowneck Beach for the Grand Final.
