Jesse Richman drops into Jaws - Big wave kitesurfing

"Kitesurfing Peahi is really really fun..." commented Richman after posting this video, "So much stoke from this session!".
As Australia enjoys a steady stream of seabreezes for our summer, the Hawaiian Islands are beginning to see the making of a big wave winter, with the first decent swell rolling into a wind-swept 'Jaws' (Pe'ahi) - Jesse Richman was there to kite it. Joined by his team-mate Kai Lenny who was windsurfing (don't worry, he went for a kite later), Jesse was the only one out on a kite during the shots below. With perfect cross-shore conditions, and no surfers to gum up the works, Jesse Richmans only challenge was matching the freight-train like speeds that Jaws runs at! Watch as his little Naish shortboard bounces all over the place, leaving huge spray trails on every turn. With all that water moving so fast, it does funny things to the wind above the wave face. Creating a strong updraft just above and behind the wave, it makes for long floaty jumps and great exits off the shoulder. Richman isn't a surfing purist, The Red Bull Big Air champion choosing to triple backroll his way off some of the waves - try doing that with just a surfboard! "Kitesurfing Peahi is really really fun..." commented Richman after posting this video, "So much stoke from this session!". The season is just kicking off in Hawaii, so get ready to see some big-wave kitesurfing action as the worlds pro's keep one eye firmly fixed on the Hawaiian Islands. With the sport of kitesurfing now reaching the maturity required to tackle the worlds biggest, it's going to be an exciting winter! Would you head out into conditions running this fast at Jaws?
