Western Australia is a gorgeous part of the world, and for kiteboarders and windsurfers, well, we don't have to tell you about the wind! The Lancelin Ocean Classic is one of those events that just shines a spotlight on the countries natural beauty, juxtaposing it against extreme racing and surfing action from the worlds best kiters and windsurfers. Last weekend it was on again for 2016, delivering the stunning imagery and action that we've come to expect from this event.

But with three days of no wind, the event was looking like a disaster at first! Luckily, our old mate Huey the wind god smiled on the crew camped out on the WA coast, delivering a cracker SW'erly just in time for Sunday. Faced with four huge events to finish on one day, the event organizers had their work cut out for them, but incredibl, got it all done with time to spare!

The classic event, a downwinder slalom course down the gorgeous WA coast saw windsurfers fighting against kiteboarders in a battle to cross the line first. In the end it was Olly Bridge who took line honors, proving that the kid from the UK is truly one of the fastest sailors around right now, using a little slalom race board to skip above the chop. The next fastest was Torvar Mirsky, nearly 2 minutes behind!

In the surf, it was Ryland Blakeny that showed he's not too old yet! Busting out some huge aerials, unhooked on a strapless board was one of the reasons he was standing on top of the podium that arvo, along side Keahi De Aboitiz (who's a hard guy to beat!) Expect to see some incredible photos of the wave event in the kiteboarding forums right here on Seabreeze.com.au.

There was also a kiteboarding freestyle session, and don't forget about the windsurfers, who also had a surf event. All that was packed into one day of competition! Well done to the event organizers who turned a windless week into a cracker day of kiteboarding! The event will be back in 2017, so keep your eyes peeled to the Seabreeze.com.au kiteboarding events page to find out when entries open, and you too could be racing across the spectacular coastline of Western Australia, at the Lancelin Ocean Classic.
